C&SRY COMO PHOTOS & HISTORY – This wonderful historic offering was presented to me to handle by the family for Doris Aldrich who was 5 years old growing up Como in the 30’s. Her father Peter Marinelli was a fireman on the C&S and ran the rotary snow plow over Boreas Pass. The lot consists of approximately 140 black & white photo’s showing the wreck of engine 67 at the Como Roundhouse, the rotary cutting through amazing snow on Boreas, C&S engines traveling through South Park, March 1928 Engine 7 wrecked and covered with snow and so much more. Also includes approximately 50 negatives as well. The best part of this offering is the letter written by Doris sharing her memories of growing up in Como. Here is a small excerpt of the two page letter that will be included: She writes, “One of my favorite memories is hearing the train whistle come around the corner from Fairplay. When my brother and I heard that whistle we would run down to the water tower to meet Dad and his train. They had to stop there and get water. Dad and his engineer would pull us up into the cab and let us ride with them to the round house. Dad would tell many stories about the ride from Como over Boreas Pass to Leadville via Breckenridge. He told of the curve called Windy Point and how dangerous it was, especially in winter. He was the fireman on the rotary engine which would plow a path for the rest of the train in the winter. I remember pictures of the snow being up halfway to the top of the engine. But no matter what the weather the train kept moving to its destination. When the C&S quit running the route through Como, Dad was on the crew that pulled the rails. My Dad was not an emotional man but he would be in tears when he would come home from that job.” This really is an amazing piece of Colorado Railroad history that will bring hours of enjoyment to the lucky buyer.
